His Holiness rarely gives the Lam Dre in the West. He is not only coming to our doorstep but is also the first master to give the Lam Dre in English, making the experience even more accessible.

Here is an unparalleled opportunity to spend six weeks in the Lam Dre mandala with not only His Holiness but with other great masters as well. His Eminence Ratna Vajra Rinpoche will also attend, as will Her Eminence Jetsun Kushok Chimey Luding.

The opportunity of a lifetime, perhaps many lifetimes!

His Holiness will undertake a five week Australian tour after the Lam Dre. Full details will be available on this website when finalised.

One precious teaching

This will be the common Lam Dre, because as Holiness has recently stated,

Initially there was only one form of Lam Dre ... in the present situation, which has a limited timeframe, even if I give Lam Dre Lobshe it will be in name only, and in reality it will be Lam Dre Tsogshe.

His Holiness has pointed out that Lam Dre Lobshe (sometimes referred to as Uncommon Lam Dre) requires the disciples to have gained certain experience which may take many months, years or even lifetimes! Given the teaching timeframe of six weeks, His Holiness has said that in the circumstances it is more appropriate for him to give Lam Dre Tsogshe in both name and content.

The Lam Dre consists of two parts. The first part, the Triple Vision, explains the Sutrayana, which is the path of the Hinayana and Mayahana, and the second part is the Triple Tantra which explains the esoteric Hevajra teaching.

Three great masters

His Holiness the Sakya Trizin, guru of many gurus

His Holiness, second only to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the spiritual hierarchy of Tibet, is the head of the Sakya tradition, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. He is the patriarch of the unbroken Khon lineage which dates back to 1073 and is considered an emanation of both Manjushri and of Padmasambhava.

His Holiness is the custodian of innumerable sutras and tantras, of which the Lam Dre is the most precious. He is one of the greatest Lam Dre masters of today and one of the last Tibetan born lineage holders. The heads of all the other schools have received empowerments from him, and so His Holiness is the guru of many gurus.

His Eminence is the elder son of His Holiness the Sakya Trizin and one of the most important young lineage holders. Born in 1974, His Eminence was from birth the recipient of blessings and teachings to increase his capacity for knowledge and wisdom. In addition to Buddhist philosophy studies at Sakya College in India he has received exoteric and esoteric teachings and empowerments from the most accomplished masters of the last century.

She has received teachings from the most highly realised Tibetan Buddhist Masters of the 20th Century, and has undergone the same training as His Holiness. She is revered as only the third woman in the history of the Sakyapas to have transmitted the Lam Dre and is spoken of as an emanation of Vajrayogini.
