Drogmi Shedra
Khenpo Ngawang Dhamchoe will conduct a new three year study program at Kamalashila Tibetan Buddhist Centre in Tilba Tilba, New South Wales, Australia. The focus of the new advanced course is the in-person intensive study residentials with a different text studied each year.
The Drogmi Shedra will commence in May 2026 and conclude in September 2028. Khenpo la has expressed his wish to turn the wheel of Dharma as often as possible to help sentient beings and believes this new advanced course will strengthen our practice and Sangha. The structure of the course is modelled on the previous three year ‘The Compete Path Course’ which ran from 2017 to 2019.
The course also aims to provide a means of advanced study for those who completed the Autumn Buddhist Philosophy Course, and for that reason is also known as the Drogmi Shedra Advanced Autumn Buddhist Philosophy Course.
The Drogmi Shedra comprises two semesters per year. Each semester will include an in-person intensive study residential at Kamalashila Tibetan Buddhist Centre; three days in semester 1 (in May) and 10 days in semester 2 (in September). The study residentials will involve teachings, personal study, discussion and a mix of group and individual presentations. Semester 2 will include an end of year written exam and Semester 1 will involve three monthly online Zoom teaching sessions with Khenpo la in June, July and August 2025.
The text for 2026 is Bodhicharyavatara (two chapters; Contemplation and Wisdom - the chapter numbers will differ depending on the translation) by Shantideva (8th century) and the text for 2027 is Madhyamakavatara/Entering the Middle Way by Chandrakriti (7th century). The study text for 2028 is yet to be decided. Any version and translation of the texts can be used.
The next three-year shedra cycle will start in 2029.
