28 December 2019-19 January 2020

Khenpo Ngawang Dhamchoe is leading a three week pilgrimage to the four holy Buddhist sites in India and Nepal, starting on 28 December 2019. It is truly a rare opportunity to undertake this very special pilgrimage as Khenpo only leads pilgrimages once every three years.

The four holy Buddhist sites are at Bodhgaya, where the Buddha attained enlightenment; Lumbini, the Buddha’s birthplace; Sarnath (Varanasi), where the Buddha delivered his first teaching; and Kushinagar, where the Buddha died and attained Parinirvana.

Benefits of the pilgrimage to precious Buddhist sites:
  • The creation of a positive connection with the land where the Dharma originated
  • The removal of negative Karma and other obstacles
  • To gain inspiration and merits while practising generosity and patience
  • To form the mental state of mind conducive to practice for greater realisation of Dharma.

The cost is $3,500. This includes accommodation, transport within India and Nepal, and meals. You will need to book and pay separately for:
  • Flights to and from the arrival and departure points
  • Travel insurance
  • Visas for India and Nepal (see below for details).
A deposit of $1,500 is required by 16 September 2019, with a $500 cancellation fee applicable. Payment of the remaining $2,000 is due on 15 October 2019.  Payment details to Drogmi Buddhist Institute will be provided when you register.

For information, email [email protected].

Arrival and departure
The pilgrimage starts in Bodhgaya, India – the airport is Gaya Airport – and ends at Kathmandu, Nepal. Participants will need to arrive in Bodhgaya on 28 December, and will be free to depart Kathmandu on 19 January, after a concluding dinner the previous evening.
